1. HISTORY OF THE ENGAGEMENT RING
You cannot take such a significant step without knowing where this tradition comes from. The history of the engagement ring has very distant origins, with the ancient Egyptians. The ring, in fact, was given to the woman as a sign of trust and respect, a way of saying that she was considered a person you could count on and with whom you could create a family. In Roman times, however, it was customary to give two rings to the bride, one in iron to wear at home and another in gold to show in public, both representing a pledge of the man's love towards his wife.
Obviously, over the centuries, the appearance of the ring has undergone a notable change, slowly approaching the type of jewel we are used to today. It was in 1477, in fact, when Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg gave his bride Mary of Burgundy a ring studded with diamonds, bringing precious stones onto the scene for the first time. The idea of solitaire, however, has its roots in the late 19th century and each era of history differs in the types and cuts of stones set in the rings.

2. TYPES OF ENGAGEMENT RING: HOW MANY ARE THERE?
If you want to declare eternal love to your soul mate, you will also have to overcome this obstacle and view all the possible types of engagement ring. Now let's focus on the shapes of engagement rings, and then continue with the types of precious stones that can be set:
- Solitary engagement ring: even the most disinterested person in fashion and the world of weddings will know what it is. The most widespread and loved, the solitaire engagement ring has very specific characteristics, that is, it is composed of a single diamond mounted on a metal band. The meaning? A single stone, a single love. How can you resist this declaration of pure romanticism? A classic ring with undisputed elegance, which can be worn for a lifetime and with all outfits. Can we consider it a guaranteed success?
- Eternity (also called Veretta or Riviera):The name itself says it all. Giving this ring as a gift means declaring eternal love.A band studded with a line of gems, usually diamonds, but also sapphires, rubies or emeralds for those who love vintage or want to stand out in some way. Simpler in its modalityhalf-eternity,, that is, when the line of diamonds does not cover the entirety of the ring but only the upper half. It is a ring that fascinates with its brightness and which can be combined with all personalities.
- Pav: a metal band where many precious stones or diamonds are positioned close to each other, until they cover the upper surface of the ring. A real challenge for jewelers, who must focus everything on patience and precision. The smoother and more compact the surface, the better the diamonds are set.
- Trilogy: similar to the classic solitaire, the trilogy engagement ring is characterized by three smaller diamonds mounted on the metal band where, if desired, it is possible to add a line of smaller diamonds. This is also an elegant choice and especially suitable for those with thin, long-limbed fingers; but who knows if three diamonds are better than one?
- Toi et Moi: not very common, this engagement ring has a particular meaning due to its shape. These are two similar but not identical stones mounted in a mirror, close but not touching, to symbolize the two components of the couple, different but always united. A bold choice with a story behind it. Did you know that Napoleon gave this type of ring to his wife Josephine, with the phrase "You and I, forever" engraved inside?
- Halo: the halo engagement ring is not suitable for everyone as it is very flashy. A ring composed of a diamond, or other stone, enriched with a crown of smaller stones or diamonds all around. If desired, on the upper half of the metal band it is possible to add a line of stones or diamonds, which further increase the visual impact of an already important ring in itself.
